On Fertility and Beyond

Having my TAHBSO next week frightens me. It somehow makes me feel that I am not in control of the situation.  I have this one referral note from my oncologist referring me to an infertility specialist at a different hospital. I had that referral note since last week and I just had the courage to call for some questions today.

1. How much does it cost to have my eggs frozen?

2. How much is the annual storage fee?

3. How is the procedure done?

4. I’m having my TAHBSO next week, can they do the procedure the same time?

I called two clinics in the Philippines, I guess they are the only two that does the procedure.  My first call was with Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine and Infertility (CARMI).  They are housed in one of the major hospitals in Manila, St. Luke’s Global City.  I was very straightforward and asking how much it would cost.  The lady who answered my call was very gracious to answer all my questions. They charge Php 63,000 per out-patient procedure + anesthesiologist fee + 12,900 (i think) for the yearly storage fee. She mentioned that they did get patients with my condition who would like to preserve their ability to procreate through surrogacy.

The second call i made was with Victory A.R.T. Laboratories Philippines.  They are located in Medical Plaza behind Makati Medical Center.  The person who answered my call was nice but she also explained that there is a protocol that we have to follow.  Like stimulating the ovaries at the second day of menstruation. It would cost us Php140,000 + anesthesiologist fee + 6,000 per annual year of storage.

Hearing about the cost, I know deep in my heart that we could not afford it. We were not really ready for this situation in our life.
